Innovate + Create In Danbury

The second annual Mad Hackers event held at the Danbury Ice Arena was a day filled with technology, social media and innovation. From circuit bending and 3D printers to quadcopters and robotics to the Vortex Cannon and more, there really was something to inspire and delight children and adults of all ages.

This year’s event also helped kickoff the opening of the Danbury Hackerspace located at the newly completed Danbury Innovation Center at 158 Main Street, connected to the Danbury Library. The center was officially opened on May 29.
The Danbury Hackerspace is a collaborative space to bring together and connect engineers, entrepreneurs, makers, craftspeople and artists. The Innovation Center will also be home to Western Connecticut SCORE and a co-working space. The idea is simple: Bring people together from all different fields and help launch new businesses.

“People can come to the Danbury Hackerspace to learn about new technologies like 3D printers and scanners, computerized CNC machines, and more,” said Jon Gatrell, co-founder of the Danbury Hackerspace. “The people that work and learn at the Danbury Hackerspace on Main Street will eat at the local restaurants, shop in the stores and help the renaissance that is happening in CityCenter Danbury.”

The Danbury Hackerspace will be open to the public on Tuesday nights and for special events. For 24/7 access, membership is required at $50 a month. Co-workspace sharing starts at a $200 a month.
