New Gallery Opens On Main Street

The Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut has a new home on Main Street in Danbury. With much time and effort they have transformed the store front adjacent to Escape To The Arts into a sleek, modern office and gallery space.

Recently art supporters, prominent local businesspeople and cultural alliance members packed into the hip new space as part of a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting. While enjoying delicious food catered by The Mango Tree this cross-section of the local community got a first hand look at the new space as well as a chance to admire the talent of two local artists.

As part of the Open House was the debut of @287, an exponential meet up space for art and culture, featuring its first gallery exhibition. The show, which runs through March 7 joins photographer John Kane's sensuous figure studies "Bodies in Motion" with the colorful "Alien Circus Project," by sculptor Jim Felice. The photographs by John Kane feature dancers of the Connecticut-based modern performance company Pilobolus. The photographs showcase the strength and beauty of the human form. In the sculptures, creator Jim Felice explores the relationship between natural phenomena, manufactured environments and the whimsical.

Cultural alliance executive director Lisa Scails shared with the packed house that this new location would not have been possible without the generous contributions of time and services from many people and businesses. They hope this new home will act as a hub and that @287 will become a destination for workshops, lectures, think tank sessions, and performance.

The Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut (formerly the Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance) is a leader in supporting a vibrant arts and culture community in Northern Fairfield and Southern Litchfield Counties. They promote and advocate for arts, history, and culture as a primary driver of the economy and as an enriching influence for communities and people.

@287 is located at 287 Main Street in Danbury. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 10am-4pm or by appointment. For more information, call 203-798-0760 or visit www.artswesternct.org.
