Celebrating Indian Culture

People who say there is nothing to do in Danbury have no idea what they are talking about!

This past Saturday alone there was a Lebanese festival, an Indian festival and a coffeehouse fundraiser for a community arts program.

We only had time to attend one event that day, so we decided on Jai Ho, the Indian festival organized by the India Association of Western Connecticut. We'd always wanted to go.

The event, which took place on the Danbury Green, featured food, music, art and culture.

Thankfully the weather cooperated and it was under a beautiful summer sun that we strolled around the green visiting the various vendors. There were ones selling clothing, jewelry, and of course, food!

The Mango Tree tent had a constant flow of customers.

We love Indian food, so this was what we most looked forward to at the festival. We grabbed vegetable samosas from Bombay Express. Then, we feasted on food from The Mango Tree. We're glad we got their early enough to sample the chicken. Amazing! It sold out before the end of the day!

The Butter Chicken from The Mango Tree sold out
before the end of the festival. It was that good.
We kind of seriously love their butter chicken. We wished we left enough room to sample something from Navaratna because their menu looked amazing too, but alas our bellies were full.

We sat on the grass to enjoy our feast and listened to the cultural acts put on by both adults and children. There was a little of everything from traditional singing to dance to music.

All in all, it was a great afternoon celebrating Indian culture.
