About A Bike

There it was, in all it's orange-brown rusty glory. It was like it was just waiting for us to come and rescue it. "Free" said the handwritten cardboard sign propped up at its base. And, for the very first time ever Alicia and I looked at each other and decided yes, we'll take it.

Like that dramatic lead-in? Well, it may not have been that dramatic, but it did feel like it was meant to be.

You see last Friday a friend shared a photo on Facebook taken by The Mercurial of a circa 1970s orange-brown Huffy bike left outside The Danbury Music Centre that was free for the taking.

We knew we had to bring it home because: (1) We never bring the car with the bike rack to the office, but that day we just so happened to drive it; (2) We'd been looking for an old bike to use as a garden sculpture; and, (3) We could literally see the bike from our office window. We had no excuse not to take it. It was meant to be.

This kismet event got us thinking. Much like the bike, we feel our move to downtown Danbury just a little over a year ago was meant to be. A fantastic studio space, one that we already happened to be familiar with and love, was available. The rent was incredibly reasonable. We loved the more urban vibe. Not to mention that our current office lease was coming due. It felt like it was meant to be.

Since moving downtown, we've connected with cool people, eaten some fantastic ethnic lunches, loved running all our errands on foot, and discovered a whole new sense of hometown pride. Yup, some things are just meant to be.
